What a Relief

September 30, 2008

Three days ago I got up early to freshen up and leave home at an imaginable time for me to do.  I usually wake up super late during weekends and last Saturday, guess what? I woke up at 6:30 as I have to be in the work venue an hour before the event starts.  Our project is approaching its culmination and the last main activity is this workshop.

My predicament has always been in a pressure cooker environment.  Yet I managed to remain calm during the entire period as I have two angels who have been of great help for other duties that I can’t afford to handle.  I’m just thankful to HIM that I survived again!

Now that it’s over, I can go back to my normal schedule of sleeping spree. A dose of my simple pleasures.

Corrupted Memory Card Photography Class Disaster

September 26, 2008

Photography is my hobby. I like to take photos every now and then. In fact, I joined a group of photo enthusiast that devotes time for taking photos of a particular subject every week. I host my photos in a photo blog with the following URL aileenguirnela.com.

In line with my hobby, I shop and read lots about digital SLR cameras. My current photo buddy is a Nikon D40x which proves to be enough for the shots that I make. But sometimes I wish to have an upgrade of my gadget to a more advanced digital SLR camera, in the lines of Nikon D300. Since, those are not very practicable; I’ll settle with buying some camera lens.

Attending photo seminars or classes is another great plus in the hobby. I get to learn techniques on taking a good shot. Both a combination of art and science. I remember a friend who cut and paste her photos from the digital camera’s memory card to the working computer via USB. Everything seems to be fine until power failure hit us. Well when the power was back the memory card of the camera is not recognizable anymore.

We searched for some photo recovery tool and found out about Photo Nose - Photo Image Recovery Software. The recovery software works on Windows systems like Win 9x, Win XP, Win ME, Win 2000, Win 2003 and Win Vista. It supports a variety of standard photo formats like jpeg, bmp, tif, rif, gif and other proprietary formats such as Nikon (nef), Fuji (raf), Cannon (crw, cr2), Kodak (dcr) to name a few. Aside from that, Photo Nose Professional version could even recover audio files and video files. It could also work with different kinds of memory card and flash/usb drives.

We finally, have recovered my friends photo class images that was lost. But a lesson that I learned is not to CUT and PASTE files from memory card to computers, it’s better to copy them and when everything is copied completely that’s the time to delete it from the memory card. A whole days photo work is very valuable; take care to prevent a loss.

Nothing to Worry

September 4, 2008

For would be travelers of the Kingdom of Thailand there’s nothing to worry in spending your vacation here.  The Philippine Embassy of Bangkok have issued the latest update advisory saying, “The government appears to be in control of the situation and violence is isolated to those areas where the demonstrations are being staged. Life appears to be normal outside of these affected areas. There is no imminent danger to innocent civilians and no palpable tension in the streets of Bangkok.

Travelers to Bangkok are however advised to avoid the following places: Chamai Maruchet Bridge, Government House, Sanam Luang (Royal Grounds), and Ratchadamnoen Road (UN).

Everyone is advised to go about his or her usual business and daily routine.’”

State of Emergency in Bangkok

September 2, 2008

As many of you are already aware a state of emergency has been declared in Bangkok. Details on the state of emergency has recently been posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand website.  The announcement notes that “the state of emergency is a temporary measure, and has been declared only in Bangkok, and that within Bangkok itself, only a few districts have been affected by the incidents. The clash that took place between anti-and pro-government demonstrators occurred in the government district during the early morning of 2 September 2008, have since subsided with the police and military in control of the situation.  In other districts of Bangkok and the rest of the Kingdom, people continue to carry out their livelihood as usual with the country’s economic and financial system functioning normally”.

For us who are living far away from reality zone we’re advised to take precautionary measures, by avoiding the areas where clashes or protests have taken place, and to keep updated on the situation.  I though this only happens in the Philippines, I just pray that this mess will end soon.
